RIMEA All-State Music Festival
The 2009 RIMEA All-State auditions
will be held on Saturday, November 21st
at Moses Brown in Providence, RI. Please note that students will
be
responsible for obtaining the audition
piece.
We do not have
the pieces "in stock" at the middle
school.

An informational letter
will be sent home soon for interested students regarding audition fees,
locations, and rehearsal dates (should
they be selected for the group).
IMPORTANT: To order the required Jr.
All-State audition piece for your
instrument*, simply call
Rick's Musical Instruments
in Cumberland, RI at
401.658.3404, and they will deliver it
to Riverside Middle School.
*The Jr.
Snare Drum Piece is not available for
purchase. You must download and print
the piece using the link above.
IMPORTANT:

There is NO bus for
this festival.
Students must provide their own
transportation to and from Moses
Brown.

Students should dress
formally for their audition.
(i.e. no jeans, sneakers, hats,
etc.)

NO PHOTOCOPIED MUSIC
is allowed
at any RIMEA Festival.

Please plan on
arriving 15 minutes before
your scheduled audition time
with your adjudication form ready
and filled out.

allowed in audition rooms and
certain hallways.

Here are
some important reminders for
students and parents:

There is NO bus for
this festival.
Students must provide their own
transportation to and from RI
College.
- This is
a formal event. Students
should dress
appropriately.
(i.e. NO
jeans, NO shorts, NO
t-shirts)
- Parents
are NOT allowed in the
audition room with
students.
- All
students should try to
arrive at their assigned
room early.
- All
students participating
MUST HAVE AN ORIGINAL COPY
of their piece. Students
without an ORIGINAL COPY
(i.e. no photocopies) will
not be allowed to perform.
See Ms. Murphy if you need
an ORIGINAL COPY of your
music.

Students must also have
the
PROPER ADJUDICATION FORM
with them. See Ms. Murphy
for this form.

Students are expected to
behave properly the entire
time they are on the RIC
campus. Unruly students
will not be allowed to
perform.
- Only
sponsoring teachers may
pick up student results
and medals at the end of
the day in the Roberts
Hall Alumni Lounge. This
is also where sponsoring
teachers can go for help
with scheduling problems.
No student, parents or
non-RIMEA members are
allowed in this room.

2010 Rhode Island Jr. Band Festival
The 2010 Rhode Island Music Educators (RIMEA)
Band Festival has been tentatively
scheduled for Tuesday, April 13th at
Barrington High School.
Riverside Middle School is proud to
announce that, for the eighth year in a
row, the RMS Concert Band received a
Superior rating at this festival in 2009.

Great East
Festival 2010
The Riverside Middle School Bands have
been accepted to participate in the
Great East
Festival
on Friday, May 14, 2010.
The day will begin with
the Music Festival: a dignified and
refined performance at Palmer HS in
Massachusetts. The adjudicators will
critique each group's performances on
tape and present a rating plaque as the
group exits the performing site.
Participating groups will then proceed
to Six Flags, New England where they
will enjoy the fun and excitement for
the remainder of the day.

URI Percussion Festival
The RI Chapter of the
Percussive Arts Society will host
its 9th annual Day of Percussion on
Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Fine Arts
Center of the University of RI in
Kingston, RI.
The festival includes adjudicated percussion ensemble
performances open to middle school and
high school ensembles. The day also
provides instructional performances and
clinics by collegiate percussion
ensembles and area professionals.
IMPORTANT: The RMS
Percussion Ensemble is currently
inactive. Should it become active during
the 2009-2010 school year, here is some important
information to be aware of for the 2010 festival:
Activities are
tentatively scheduled between 1-5 p.m.
Times may need to be expanded depending
on the number of ensembles registered to
participate.
Listed below are
some important reminders for
students and parents:
- A bus
will be provided to and
from this festival.
Students should arrive
to RMS no later than
11:15 to board the bus.
We should return to RMS
at approximately 5 p.m.
- The
uniform for this
performance is black
shoes, black socks,
black pants, a white
button-down shirt
(long-sleeve), and a red
bow tie. (Ms. Murphy
will supply the bow
tie.)
- On
occasion, students have
been offered snacks and
beverages for purchase
at this event.
Therefore, you may want
to send your child with
some spending money.
- Since
it such a long day, it
is also encouraged to
pack a lunch or a bag of
snacks for your child
for the ride home.
- This
festival is open to the
public and admission is
FREE.
Riverside Middle
School is proud to announce that the RMS
Percussion Ensemble captured 1st place
and the trophy for Outstanding
Performance at the 2009 festival. RMS
had previously taken this honor in both
2003 and 2006.
