URI Percussion Festival

The RI Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society will host its 9th annual Day of Percussion on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Fine Arts Center of the University of RI in Kingston, RI.

The festival includes adjudicated percussion ensemble performances open to middle school and high school ensembles. The day also provides instructional performances and clinics by collegiate percussion ensembles and area professionals.

IMPORTANT: The RMS Percussion Ensemble is currently inactive. Should it become active during the 2009-2010 school year, here is some important information to be aware of for the 2010 festival:

Activities are tentatively scheduled between 1-5 p.m. Times may need to be expanded depending on the number of ensembles registered to participate.

Listed below are some important reminders for students and parents:

  • A bus will be provided to and from this festival. Students should arrive to RMS no later than 11:15 to board the bus. We should return to RMS at approximately 5 p.m.
  • The uniform for this performance is black shoes, black socks, black pants, a white button-down shirt (long-sleeve), and a red bow tie. (Ms. Murphy will supply the bow tie.)
  • On occasion, students have been offered snacks and beverages for purchase at this event. Therefore, you may want to send your child with some spending money.
  • Since it such a long day, it is also encouraged to pack a lunch or a bag of snacks for your child for the ride home.
  • This festival is open to the public and admission is FREE.

Riverside Middle School is proud to announce that the RMS Percussion Ensemble captured 1st place and the trophy for Outstanding Performance at the 2009 festival. RMS had previously taken this honor in both 2003 and 2006.
