If you were absent today and you are in period 3,4, or 7 you must copy the following notes:
North Africa
Battle of El Alamein- Egypt Oct. 1942
• British turn back advancing German army
Operation Torch- Hundreds of thousands of American troops landed in French West Africa Nov. 1942
• defended by a small force of Germans and many French soldiers who sided with Germany
• Easily conquered
* British& Americans squeezed Germans & Italians who were surrounded, outgunned, and out supplied back to the city of Tunisia

Battle of Tunisia- May 1943
- Big, punishing victory for the Allies (we needed it)
- 250,000 Axis troops surrender
- Germans and Italians finished in North Africa
